Course Description: The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM to 6:30 PM Pacific Time, with an additional 2.5 hrs/week for student homework/reading/video/practice sessions, etc. This is a four-week online workshop for Structural Integration Practitioners, Somatic Therapists, Bodyworkers, & Movement Educators. Participants will benefit their clients by gaining a deeper understanding of the mechanisms involved in two essential human activities: breathing and walking. Students will learn to evaluate and improve habitual movement patterns connected to breathing and walking. Using Serge Gracovetsky's Spinal Engine theory and Hubert Godard's Tonic Function model, we will explore the biomechanical and perceptual dynamics of walking and breathing. We will also draw on somatic disciplines such as modern dance, Feldenkrais, Bartenieff, and other approaches to heightened embodiment. No prior movement experience is necessary. The workshop will be a combination of lecture/theory, experiential exploration, and therapeutic techniques to use with clients.
