Course Description:

Fascial mobilization is an effective strategy for integrating structure. Fascial work can, however, overshadow what lies behind its effectiveness. Posture integrates because of inherent Body Movement Intelligence, something Ida Rolf defined in specific terms. This workshop is a chance to clarify what inherent body movement intelligence is, and to learn how:

  • Rolf's 10 session recipe builds a step-by-step restoration of competent function, through differentiation of the body's sensory and motor maps.
  • Self-care can be designed to mirror the goals of the series
  • Rolf's goals can be evoked in the absence of fascial mobilization.
  • We can clarify these goals and how to evoke them across a broad spectrum of clients and situations, on and off the table.
  • We demonstrate the values of the SI series at each step so clients are educated to understand the point of each session's work and its application to life's challenges.

Through lectures. discussion and experiential practices, this class uses Hubert Godard's Tonic Function model to highlight topics such as stabilization, optimal coordination, and embodiment. Assigned reading will update students on recent scientific discoveries in the fields of biomechanics, perception, and coordination, serving as the basis for class discussions. Students will learn relevant Rolf Movement Integration sessions and self-care practices, demonstrated live and through video presentation. These sessions will be performed by students on their own clients, followed by class debriefings. As a clear step-by-step reference guide and for easy future recall, students will be provided with "scripts", illustrated outline handouts containing detailed descriptions of all movement integration strategies presented.

**The zoom calls for this class will be recorded to be used in future classes. By signing up your participation shows you agree to be recorded and have your face and voice shared.

Instructor Biography:

Per Haaland is a Certified Advanced Rolfer™ and Rolf Movement® Instructor. He received his basic Rolfing® training in 1989 and completed his advanced training with Jan Sultan and Jeff Maitland in 1994. Per has also trained in visceral and neural manipulation and is a certified biodynamic craniosacral therapist. Studies with Hubert Godard and Kevin Frank shape his understanding of structural integration as interactive somatic education, highlighting perceptual and coordinative processes. In his approach to Structural Integration and Movement Education, Per also draws extensively from his background as a professional dancer and choreographer.

As a teacher, Per is patient, approachable, and thorough, helping his students reach deeper levels of embodiment while gaining sophisticated manual therapy skills and a solid understanding of the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of SI. Per lives in Santa Cruz, CA and maintains a private practice there.
