Biomechanics of Adaptive Alignment-Based on the work of Liz Gaggini
Instructors: Alyssa Dodson
Credits: 28 IASI Type 1 Credits
Course Description:
This 4-day module is the first of 5 modules that define, differentiate, and explore Natural and Adaptive Alignment as developed by Liz Gaggini. Natural Alignment is the individual structural blueprint with which we are born. Adaptive Alignment describes the body's ability to orient, balance, and function. In order to achieve a more optimal alignment, asymmetries and compensatory patterns must be addressed in the context of one's unique Natural Alignment. Functional and dysfunctional asymmetries of Adaptive Alignment will be defined, explained, and discussed. Specific assessments and protocols will be taught through demonstrations and trades. Methods for integrating these principles and techniques in series work will be addressed. The full course consists of five modules: Natural Alignment and Biomechanics of the Pelvis, Biomechanics of the Shoulder Girdle, Appendicular Counter-Rotations, Axial Biomechanics, Cervical and Cranial Biomechanics. Class size is limited to 12 practitioners in order to give individual attention.
Instructor Bio:
Alyssa Dodson completed her initial SI training in 2002 at The Guild for Structural Integration, with Emmett Hutchins and Peter Melchior. She began studying with Liz Gaggini in 2005 and was a teaching assistant to Liz from 2007 until 2016. Alyssa has now become one of a small group of practitioners authorized to teach her material. Along with her Structural Integration practice and teaching, Alyssa brings 15 years of performing and teaching Martha Graham Technique and movement/alignment education at various elite schools and festivals. She has also trained extensively with and taught Gyrotonic System for Juliu Horvath. Her work has been further influenced by Hubert Goddard, Monica Caspari, Emilie Conrad, and Irene Dowd.
